As a faith community we often say, “No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.”
Because we mean those words, we need to ensure our physical structure allows that to be true for everyone. There are exciting efforts underway to make sure our facilities are aligned with our intent. We invite you to consider how you can support this worthwhile effort (see below).
Phase 2 Building Renovations
Phase 2 of renovations to our physical facility focus on two key goals:
- Making our building easily accessible to all, and
- Establishing our church as a positive focal point in our greater neighborhood.
Plans call for the installation of a new accessibility ramp to make it easier for everyone to use our facilities. A lift will be installed inside to allow easy access to the main floors of the church. In addition, we will renovate our bathrooms to make them accessible to all and gender-neutral.
Along the front exterior (see image above), plans call for the creation of a wonderful new community plaza, which will be named in honor of Blanche and Dorothy Reynolds. These sisters not only worked to keep our church alive, but also challenged the church to accept women into roles of leadership and welcome members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Blanche, in particular, has served our church faithfully for nearly 100 years.
Our church sits on an active corner of our neighborhood. Imagine an inviting plaza where pedestrians can stop as they make their way to Piedmont Park, or a safe space where students from Inman Middle School can congregate.
Accessible and inviting to all.
