  • Virginia-Highland Church (VHC) is a community with a mission! We strive to follow Christ’s example of service and transformation by working to help those in need around us and to make our world a better place. We do this work through mission teams such as our Green Team, Equality Team, Neighbors in Need team, and newly forming Peace and Justice team. These teams work to make our church and community more environmentally conscious, to raise awareness of issues of sexuality and gender equality, to feed and clothe those in our neighborhood who lack basic necessities, and to address local, national, and global issues such as war, hunger, and oppression. We also share the good news about our values and our community through our participation in community events such as Atlanta Pride and Virginia-Highland Summerfest. In doing these things, we live out the good news of God’s love for all people and God’s call for us as Christians to transform our world. And we need you to help us reach out! Contact Anna Hall, Director of Community Outreach, at anna@vhchurch.org and let her know your passion for changing the world. She will help you become a part of God’s mission at Virginia-Highland Church.

    Saving Jesus from the Church

The marriage by the church of bad theology and hypocritical behavior has eroded our spiritual lives. In his new book, Saving Jesus from the Church:How to Stop Worshiping Christ and Start Following Jesus, renowned authorRobin Meyers, Senior Minister of Mayflower Congregational UCC in Oklahoma City, takes the best of biblical scholarship and recasts core Christian concepts in an effort to save Christianity from its obsession with personal salvation. This exciting and provocative book is the basis for a new Sunday morning Christian education series led by Rich Wall. Not a plea to try something brand new, but rather the recovery of something very old, Saving Jesus from the Church shows us what it means to follow Jesus's teachings today. Join us on Sunday mornings at 9:30 in the library, located downstairs, for a lively discussion.

    Children's Sunday school

The children gather during our regular worship hour at 11 a.m. for a lesson that mirrors the assigned Gospel reading in adult church. They will be brought to the sanctuary to join their families for communion. All ages are welcome, and a light snack is provided.

Virginia-Highland Summerfest

Annual festival is June 2 & 3

Virginia-Highland Summerfest is regularly recognized as one of Atlanta's best neighborhood festivals and consistently revered by art professionals as one of the best artists' markets in the southeast. It is a great event for the entire family and, more importantly, it is an amazing opportunity to spread the word to THOUSANDS of people about Virginia-Highland Church! The event takes place along beautiful tree-lined Virginia Avenue, so we are perfectly positioned to share the good news of the resurrection of this historic community of faith. Of course, we need your help! There are a variety of opportunities, from donating limeade, to baking cookies, to selling limeade, to staffing the table to answer questions about why you love Virginia-Highland Church. This year, Virginia-Highland Summerfest is Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3. Mark your calendars and then send Anna Hall, Minister for Community Outreach, an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. A "Thank You" Cookout

Intown Collaborative Ministries grateful to food pantry volunteers

Intown Collaborative Ministries, one of our ministry partners, is hosting a cookout next Sunday, May 20, to honor the congregations that provide food for the Intown Food Pantry, as well as to honor pantry and co-op volunteers. The celebration will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1410 Ponce de Leon Ave., and you are welcome to stop by any time between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. While not necessary, donations-cash, checks, or canned goods for the food pantry-will be accepted.

Atlanta Streets Alive

In a city known for its outdoor festivals, you are invited to join the Virginia-Highland Church Green Team for one that is anything but typical! Inspired by open street projects around the world, Atlanta Streets Alive will be held Sunday afternoon, May 20. Two miles of North Highland Avenue will be closed to cars but open to feet and bicycles. There will be activities, performances, art, and, of course, access to all of the fantastic restaurants and shops along the route. Atlanta Streets Alive takes a valuable public space--our city's streets--and opens them up for people to play, walk, bike, breathe, and make their own. For more information, please visit www.atlantastreetsalive.com.

Coffee and Questions

Coffee and Questions is a progressive Christian meetup open to anyone open-minded and interested in discussing progressive Christian thought. Led by Director of Community Outreach Anna Hall, all aspects of Christianity are open for discussion, including those that otherwise might be considered off-limits! The group doesn’t always agree, and that’s okay. Rather, they simply try to be open about spiritual experiences and affirm each other in their explorations. This is a safe space for ALL participants to discuss spirituality in an open and honest manner. The group generally meets twice a month at a coffeehouse or restaurant in the Atlanta area. For more information, or to RSVP for the next event, please visit the group’s page on meetup.com.
